Recently as I was reading the news, I came across another story that reminded me of the importance of estate planning. In Texas, a 9 month old baby’s parents are fighting for their right to seek treatment for their daughter. The daughter has been on a ventilator since July of this year, suffering from several chronic, fatal conditions. The hospital planned on taking the girl off of life support, leaving the parents with no further treatment options. The parents were given a small extension to find another hospital or doctor that could treat their daughter, but once the deadline is up, they will proceed with taking her off of her ventilator and ending treatment. It’s hard to imagine how difficult that situation would be, to not only have to watch your daughter go through so much pain and suffering, but to have to fight with the hospital just to continue treatment as well.

While stories like these are upsetting, they also serve as a reminder of the importance of having a highly skilled and competent lawyer to handle situations like these. You need somebody who can take up the fight for you, so that you and your loved ones can focus on your child. Dealing with hospitals, who are often forced to make decisions in Their best interest rather the best interest of the patient, can be a complicated, frustrating, and difficult process. When you have an estate plan in place, the lawyers executing the estate plan will go to bat for you. They will fight the legal battles so you don’t have to. Once your estate plan is in place, you can focus on what matters most, family. Don’t get caught up in litigation and negotiation, allow a competent executor to handle the legal battles, and to fight to carry out your plan. If you have someone in your life that needs a strong legal advocate to execute your family’s plans, contact my offices and allow me to show you how I can help. Together, we can build a brighter future.
